Let me put this in Simpler Language. The word Quattro is one of DAa Technologies Patented by Audi.Audi vehicles have been wearing the Quattro badge since 1981 and in that time the system has gone through six distinct generations.Now coming to the point,what is "quattro" technology is?

 It is Basically a technology developed by the company for better grip in all travelling condition whether it is off-roading or sporting or cruising in city. The basic idea behind this technology is to shift the power of Engine in ratio to front and rear pair of wheels using a differential called "TORSEN". What it Actually does is that it divides the power and sends them to pair of wheels in order to increase the Grip of wheels according to conditions.

        

   It will be better figured by an Example, Lets consider if we are Driving an Audi automobile on a mountain road.Going up to the top,Suddenly you realize that the Road is PLane or One of the road is not touching road, you fear to crash. At this very particular moment the car computer will activate torsen and it will try to match power in such a fashion such that power is distributed according to the situation and suspensions are adjusted such that all wheels are touching ground.

If you ever notice it walking on a translucent glass surface you will see that as it moves forward it adjusts its pressure on each leg in order to maintain its grip on glass.
